hello there! finally got the chance to input what happened these past few hours... nevertheless it was a good experience for me and my grandma. Ok heres what happened:
I was goin home from work when i got a phone call (at 6:45 pm) from my aunt telling me to go to the hospital, due to my grandma's been sent to the ER Dept. I quickly rushed towards the hospital, not knowing what happened and all. I arrived in the hospital, without taking off my ankle weights (which i was wearing everyday for work, but its for personal use, not really required by my workplace LOL) off topic... anyway i saw my aunt and grandma, both in room 21 of the ER Dept. She was on the bed resting and my aunt was waiting for me and the doctor. they told me that the doctor was cute and everything, told them that it wasn't the time or place to fool around. anyways the doctor came and told us what happened. she suspects that there is a heart problem due to a heart murmur heard. we were worried a bit, but due to her age (84 yrs old) we were not surprised about it.
Then afterwards, the doctor surrendered us to another specialist of the heart to be checked and tested for any abnormalities with her. so my aunt left to tend to my cuzin's fever (which was 103 at that time, coincidently) so she was worried for both of them. I was left to tend to her needs and kinda be with her to tell the nurses, doctors, etc about her conditions and allergies.
Ok like around 9-10 pm, we were settled upstairs and my grandma quieted down (she had anxiety attacks before goin up cuz she taught that there was something wrong with her that she would die from it. thats a diff story btw.
Ok i met a nurse named angela. she's chinese (i think) and she was asking me a lot of questions related to my grandma. at first she didn't give me a chance to explain that i was an LVN/nurse, so in short, she didn't need to explain a lot of things, in detail O_O
So in short, we were talking for 1 hr were in fact we could have been finished in 20 min. LOL cuz my gm said she might have liked me, i told her "grandma, she's just doin her job" but it was funny when you know stuff and someone tries hard enough to explain it to you in precise detail, but they don't really need to do it. also, you can catch a lot of people telling you lies and you can catch it (cuz you know about the topic you're discussing xD) so it was fun in a way.
After that, a couple more encounters with a lot of nurses (mostly girls, which btw is weird considering most girls don't like that schedule (midnight) and there's 1-2 guys in sight) but it was cool.
didn't get shuteye at all (due to the patient right next to us, bed b to be exact) she was having trouble breathing and i felt bad for her. i mean she's sweet and everything, but she only knows spanish and had a hard time tryin to tell the nurses about her condition. I tried to help them cuz i may have known a bit of spanish, but only a few words i could remember. but was of no luck T.T
She's fine btw so don't worry people =) i was just stating that spanish is really needed in health care settings and they pay you good money if you know the language. and also its really hard to coney messages to people esp wen you're in foreign soil (i know the feeling sometimes) that's why i really felt bad...
anyhoo, like around 6am, had only 30min of sleep, tired and annoyed (by the nurse who didn't really check up on my grandma (talking about a diff nurse this time, a tall dark complexion gay guy, purely descriptive, non judicial) but i was annoyed by him cuz i was doin his job. kinda disappointed as well that he's a nurse....... :/
the other shift came in like around 7am, still dizzy (due to lack of sleep and 02) i had to make myself ready for the tests that my gm will be put to. so i told her that i needed to go home quickly to get my charger (for the phone to contact my aunts/fam) and be right back for the procedures. she said ok and i left to grab it
came back 8 approx. just in time to check up on her, feed her breakfast and everything. hmm i miss those times that i tend to the sick, lonely and downhearted. MAN! i want a nursing job NOW =(
9am came, and time for the stress test, echocardiogram, and CT scan. basically big words but with simple purpose, to get a visual picture of the heart in diff angles and types. hmm i wonder if i could see the pics next time :P
around 12 am (hungry like the wolf) i left my grandma resting after all those procedures, to get me a shower and change clothes/eat/get some supplies. the reason why is due to the doctor telling us that we might have to stay there for a few days depending on the results of the tests @_@ and i, like the boy scout i was, was thinking ahead if i was about the stay.
finally gettin back after an hour or so, saw my gm sleeping soundly in the bed (this was at 2pm or so) so i sat down beside her while eating my curly fries and crispy chicken strips (boy im hungry now typin this) =)
her lunch came a few minutes after (yup they served lunch late there) and i helped her eat it :P it was appetizing too i think :o
like around 6pm, the other nurse told us we are leaving cuz there was no problem with her heart, they just found a urinary tract infection that needed to be treated with antibiotics. after 2-3hrs more, we left the hospital with a happy face and a healthy heart xDDD
As you can see, those statements above may seem odd and incomplete (also jumping from one topic to another) is a great way to describe my exp there in the hospital. it is due to its like some sort of "blur" that happened so quickly, but lasted longer in my memory, but due to the lack of sleep, just remembered the highlights of it all @.@
Hope this sums it all up, can't really remember the rest sadly, but its a great experience to me that i got to use my skills in helping my loving grandma =)
